Parent Field Show & Senior Appreciation Night

Thursday, November 9, 2017

8:30 p.m. (approximate)

PHS Titan Stadium

Attention all Emerald Brigade families! Thursday, November 9 is the last Thursday night rehearsal! Traditionally, we celebrate the Emerald Brigade's hard work and recognize our Seniors with some fun events at near the end of rehearsal:

  • "Color Study" performance for Seniors - All Seniors leave the field and the rest of the band perform this year's field show for them
  • Parent Field Show - Band and Color Guard parents (of all grades, not just Seniors) perform a "tribute" field show
  • Senior Posters & Recognition - Seniors are announced individually and greeted by their families with posters and hugs

Parent Field Show Information:

All Emerald Brigade Band and Color Guard parents - our kids have worked hard all season on their "Color Study" field show, and have performed many times for us. Now it is time for US to perform for THEM! We would like to celebrate by a long standing tradition of a spoof by parents of the Emerald Brigade Field Show. All parents are strongly encouraged to participate. Don't worry, no talent or experience is required! The more parents that participate, the better our show will be.

Unlike our kids, we just need two rehearsals to get the show ready:

  • Thursday, November 2, 7:00 p.m. in the far South Parking Lot (on the south side of Titan Way)
  • Thursday, November 9, 6:30 p.m. in the far South Parking Lot (on the south side of Titan Way)

Here are videos of previous Parent Field Shows:

For the show on November 9, please wear the following color shirt or sweatshirt (if you have it in your closet) based on your last name:

  • A-D - Purple
  • E-H - Red
  • I-L - Green
  • M-P - Blue
  • Q-T - Yellow
  • U-Z - Pink
  • Color Guard parents - please wear White if you plan to carry a flag

Please contact Carol Lord Heuschele if you have any questions at hipmktgchic@gmail.com.

Senior Posters & Recognition Information:

On Thursday, November 9, all Marching Band and Color Guard Seniors will be recognized at the end of the final Thursday evening rehearsal. All the seniors will line up on the far side of the field, then will be called individually by name. Each senior will walk through a "saber arch" formed by non-senior parents and then be greeted by his/her family (all sibling, too!) on the other end.

It is traditional for the family to be holding a large poster for their senior when they greet them. So you should get out some markers and glitter glue and start working on your senior's poster and bring it with you (and your whole family) to rehearsal on November 9! Spelling out their name in big letters works best - you don't need a lot of pictures or details. If you need some guidance, check out these pictures from previous years:

At the very end, all the seniors will hold up their posters for a group photo! Contact Paula at pplilapple@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Emerald Brigade in the Poway Days Parade

Saturday, September 9, 2017

7:30 a.m. Call Time at PHS Band Room

9:00 a.m. Parade Start Time

Performance attire on parade day will be the Emerald Brigade travel shirt (white EB polo), black shorts, white socks, and white athletic shoes. Sunglasses are OK, but no hats. Wear or bring sunscreen. Water will be provided.

Call time at the Band Room is 7:30 a.m. Students will be taking buses from PHS to the parade staging site. The parade starts at Pomerado Road and Poway Road, and continues down Poway Road.

Parade organizrs have informed us, "Marching bands will continue until the grand stands at the Poway Library at Bowron Road and may disperse after that. Buses for marching bands may wait in their traditional spot past Bowron Road, on the NORTH side of Poway Road. All participants are welcomed to join the post-parade festivities at the Community Park."

The PHS band will be boarding their buses immediately after they finish the parade route (our traditional spot is the Bongiorno's Pizza / Poway's Irish Pub parking lot). They will be returning to the PHS Band Room at approximately 11:00 a.m., and will NOT be staying until the end of the parade.

Parents, you may meet up with your student when they finish the parade route and take them home, but if you do so, they must have a parent-signed note when they board the bus at PHS to let the chaperones know that they will not be returning on the bus. If you plan to take your student home, you must be present at the pickup site for your student to be released. Please be patient with the lead chaperones; your child's safety is their first priority and it may take time to get all students checked out according to the procedures in place. Please also be mindful that the buses will depart when all students are loaded. If you haven't arrived to check out your student, they will need to ride the bus back to school and be picked up there. Thank you for your cooperation.

Visit the Poway Days Parade website for more information about the event.

Attendance at the Emerald Brigade Band Camp is required for all marching band students. During this week, students are introduced to the field show that will be featured at halftime during home football games and performed at tournament competitions.

The traditional Family & Friends Concert will be held on the evening of Friday, August 12 at 6:30 PM in the N-Quad to close out Band Camp week. Everyone is invited. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and some snacks!

What should you bring to Band Camp? Here's some recommendations, but be sure to check with your Section Leader:

  • Sun hat with good coverage (see the expert campers below)
  • Sun block - bring plenty and plan to re-apply often during the day
  • Sneakers (NO sandals or flip-flops)
  • Lots of water - one gallon in an insulated drink container isn't too much!
  • NO soda, but Gatorade is great
  • Lunch and nutritious snacks
  • 3-ring binder for music and a pencilx
  • Dot book (ask your Section Leader where to get one)
  • Your instrument!

Also, take a look at the nutrition and hydration tips on the Marching Band Member Wellness website.

"Welcome Back" Emerald Brigade Picnic

Saturday, July 30, 2016

11:30 am Set-up Time, 12:00 pm Picnic Time

Lake Poway

The PHS Music Boosters along with your 2016 Band Leadership will be hosting the 4th Annual "Welcome Back" Emerald Brigade Picnic on Saturday, July 30 at Lake Poway. Look for the "PHS BAND" signs when you get to the lake. All Band & Color Guard members AND their families are invited to this celebration of the upcoming marching season. This is a great opportunity for incoming freshmen to meet their section leaders and have their burning questions about band camp answered.

This FAMILY event is a potluck-style picnic. Bring chairs, blankets, pop-ups, and a dish to share (see section assignments below):

  • Burgers, hot dogs, condiments, and paper goods will be provided by the Boosters
  • All other picnic items will be "potluck":
    • Desserts: Percussion/Color Guard
    • Side Dishes: Woodwinds
    • Drinks (12-oz cans or single-serving bottles) & Ice/Coolers: Brass

It is strongly recommended that you RSVP to Melissa Martinez at melissamqmartinez@gmail.com with a headcount if you plan to attend. She needs to plan the quantities of burgers and dogs to purchase.
