The Poway High School Instrumental Music Program would like to invite you to perform at the annual Poway Jazz Festival. The date for this event is Saturday, April 28, 2018. The Festival will be held at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

This year, the Poway Jazz Festival will be held on a Saturday, allowing us to expand our line-up for a full day of jazz. We are also pleased to host the San Diego State University Jazz Band for a lunch-hour concert under the direction of Bill Yeager.

The Festival is open to high school and middle jazz ensembles of any size and instrumentation. Ensembles will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges in four different divisions: Middle School Intermediate Level, Middle School Advanced Level, High School Intermediate Level, and High School Advanced Level.

If you are interested in performing in the 2018 Poway Jazz Festival, please follow the steps below to complete your registration for the Festival:

  1. Contact the Festival Host, Mike Cook, at mcook@powayusd.com to request a place on the Festival schedule.
  2. Complete the online Poway Jazz Festival Entry Form. If you prefer, you may use the PDF version of the Entry Form.
    • You must complete a separate form for each ensemble/group from your school that will be performing.
    • This form is submitted directly to the Festival host, the Poway HS Instrumental Music program. It reserves a spot on the performance schedule for your ensemble.
    • The deadline to submit this form is Thursday, March 1, 2018.
  3. Submit the Jazz Festival Entry Fee for each ensemble/group directly to the Festival Host.
    • The fee is $200 for each ensemble that will be performing. You may include fees for multiple ensembles on a single check.
    • Mail your fee to the Festival Host (checks payable to "PHSMB") at:

    • The deadline to pay the Festival Entry Fees is Friday, March 30, 2018.
  4. When you have finalized your music selections, complete the Jazz Festival Selections & Solo Form (download PDF).
    • You must complete a separate form for each ensemble/group from your school that will be performing.
    • This form is given to Festival judges, and used to provide the music selections for the Festival program.
    • Please type in the information in the fillable boxes where possible. If you choose to handwrite the form, please do so legibly and scan it. Email the edited PDF or scanned form to jazzfest@phsmb.com.
    • The deadline to submit this form is Friday, April 6, 2018.
  5. Complete the Jazz Festival Seating Chart (download PDF). Alternatively, you may submit a seating chart using your own preferred form.
    • You must complete a separate chart for each ensemble/group from your school that will be performing.
    • This form is given to the Festival judges to identify musicians, and it ensures that the stage is set up correctly for your group.
    • Please type in the information in the fillable boxes where possible. Email the edited PDF file or a scanned version to jazzfest@phsmb.com.
    • The deadline to submit this form is Friday, April 6, 2018.
