Twelve top high school and middle school jazz ensembles, including Poway High's Jazz Bands, will perform. The Festival is open to the public, so come and enjoy a relaxing day of live jazz!

Ensembles will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of adjudicators in four different divisions: Middle School Intermediate Level, Middle School Advanced Level, High School Intermediate Level, and High School Advanced Level. Awards will be presented at the end of the festival.

  • Bill Yeager
  • Christopher Hollyday
  • Doug Meeuwsen

Directions

The Poway High School Jazz Festival will be held in the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, which is on the Poway High School Campus. For directions to the PCPA, see Festival Directions & Parking.

Guest Parking

Free open parking is available in the Poway High School parking lots on Titan Way and Espola Road, but not in the reserved lot immediately behind the PCPA (see the Festival Venue Map).

Performances

Members of the audience should turn off their cell phones and other electronic devices during performances. Flash photography is prohibited in the PCPA.

Performances are evaluated by a panel of judges. The judges will be located in the balcony of the auditorium. They will be recording their comments throughout the performance and may be heard quietly talking. These comments and evaluations are a part of the festival procedure and are intended to reinforce the learning process for the participating ensembles.

Awards

Ensembles will be evaluated in four different divisions: Middle School Intermediate Level, Middle School Advanced Level, High School Intermediate Level, and High School Advanced Level.

The Festival awards will be announced at the end of the program after Poway High School Jazz Band A's set. Plaques will be awarded to the first, second, and third place ensembles in each of the four divisions. Outstanding sections and soloists will also be recognized with certificates.

Concessions

Light concessions for students and guests will be provided by the Poway High School Music Boosters. Items range from $1 to $5. Students should plan to bring at least $6 to purchase a meal.
