PIFT 2010 Adult Volunteer Signup

Click here to sign-up for a shift.

Please note: Student Volunteers sign up in the band room.

The Poway Invitational Field Tournament (PIFT) is our biggest fundraiser of the year which pays for many of our expenses. Poway High School hosts over 15 bands from all over San Diego County and points nearby, where over a thousand spectators come to enjoy the performances.

How to volunteer
Check out the volunteer job descriptions below and then click here to sign-up for a shift. Click the sign-up button for the job and time you'd like to volunteer. Note that all shifts are on tournament day. It's easy to do and you can make changes to your volunteer time if needed.

Please consider volunteering for more than one shift or another job. Help is especially needed during the evening hours when we have the most visitors.

If you have any questions or difficulties with the volunteer sign-up process, please contact our PIFT Adult Volunteer Coordinator Jeannie Johnson .

Thank you for helping with the tournament! It cannot happen without the support of volunteers like you.

Volunteer Job Descriptions
  • Check-In/Escorts
The band escorts are responsible for guiding the bands from their arrival until their performance is complete. Band Gate and Equipment Gate inform the bands and their equipment crews when they may enter the stadium for their performance. Check-In greets the band directors and gives them their information packets. Escorts are assigned to a band upon arrival and guide them through warm-up, performance, and back to their buses. Warm-Up makes sure each band finds their warm-up area and provides assistance to the band escorts.

  • Concessions
Concessions will operate the food booths on the Home and Visitor's side of the stadium. Jobs include taking orders, making change, and serving food. The first shift of the day will help set up and the last shift of the day will help clean up.

  • Equipment Crew
Poway Show volunteers will move instruments for the Poway Band. Set up and Tear-down crews will be setting up chairs, lights and other equipment for the show. They also clean and set up the sitting arrangement on the visitor bleachers for the attending schools.

  • Hospitality
A hospitality suite for band directors and their staff is available throughout the day. Volunteers in this area keep the refreshments stocked and the area cleaned up.

  • Merchandise
Merchandise volunteers will be selling tournament programs and T-shirts.

  • Stadium
Stadium volunteers direct spectators inside the stadium. Entrance Control volunteers check spectator's tickets or badges. They also man strategic gates onto the field. The Ushers control access in and out of the home side stadium while bands are performing.

  • Sunday Cleanup
The Sunday cleanup crew will complete the cleaning up of the stadium.

  • Ticket Sales
Tickets will be sold at the North and South gates of the stadium.

  • Traffic Control
Traffic control is responsible for directing vehicles and people around campus. Event Closure directs the people, cars, and buses leaving campus after the last performance. Visitor Guides provide information and direct pedestrians on campus. Parking Lot restricts access to Titan Way and directs the vehicles for visiting bands to their assigned parking areas. During the early morning Setup, the restricted parking areas are secured and signs for spectator parking set up.

  • Unassigned
Sign up for an unassigned job if there are no open shifts during the time you would like to volunteer. We will contact you to discuss where we can best use your help. When signing up, please use the comment field to narrow down the time frame you are available and any restrictions or preferences for job assignment.

  • Volunteer Room
The Volunteer Check-In room is the home base for volunteers throughout the day. Volunteers are checked-in and directed to where they will be working. Student volunteer's community service hours are documented. Radios are handed out and tracked.

On Tournament Day
Volunteer Parking: Please identify yourself as a volunteer to the traffic and parking crew. Volunteers may park:
  • In the back staff lot near the wrestling building. Enter from the front driveway entrance to the campus from Espola Rd. This lot is expected to fill up by late morning and will be closed to entering traffic once the performing bands begin to arrive.

  • The south parking lot off Titan Way (the "Senior lot"). Enter from Titan Way and turn left into the first driveway.
Entry to the Show: Your volunteer badge will get you into the tournament for free. Thank you!

Attire: Special attire is not required, but if you have a tournament t-shirt, Band Polo shirt, a Poway High School shirt or even a green shirt, wearing it helps identify you as a member of the staff.

Check-In: Upon arrival, please come to room K-12, the Volunteer Check-In room. K-12 is located behind the administration building. Please allow extra time to park, walk across campus, check in and walk to your post (at least 20 minutes). Adult volunteers and student volunteers have separate check-in lines. You will be given a badge to wear.

Student Community Service: All student volunteers who wish to receive community service credit must complete a community service form and have your photo taken.

Report: After you check in, report to your post. If possible, find the person you are replacing and let them know you are there. Please stay at your post the entire time for which you signed up.

Hospitality: Refreshments are available for our morning volunteers outside the volunteer check-in room or at the band check-in table outside of the band room. Water is available all day long at those two locations.
